Total option volume tops 5.7 million contracts as hedging subsides in the indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER’s data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 (SPY) has 958,000 options traded, with a put/call ratio of less than 2 to 1. The S&P 500 Index (SPX) options total 276,000 and have a put/call ratio just above 2 to 1.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) tops 202,000 contracts, 140,000 of which are puts. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has seen 176,000 options change hands, with more calls than puts. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 161,000 traded as puts slightly outpace calls.
